Action sought against Belgaum Mayor

BIDAR: Members of the Zilla Gonda Sangha staged a protest here on Saturday demanding that the Government supersede the Belgaum City Corporation council.

The protesters, who marched from Ambedkar Circle to the Deputy Commissioner's office, shouted slogans against the State Government for not taking any action in this regard.

Santoshikumar Joldabke, president of the sangha's district unit, said Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti and Akhila Bharatiya Yuva Chava Sanghatan should not mistake the tolerance of Kannadigas for their weakness. The border row is likely to intensify if it is not solved at the earliest, he added.

Baburao Wadde, former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said the resolution seeking the merger of Marathi-speaking areas with Maharashtra amounts to sedition. He urged the Government to take action against Belgaum Mayor Vijay P. More and others for the controversial resolution to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future. The protesters demanded that Mr. More and other MES members be deported to Maharashtra.
