Act fast on categorisation: BJP

NALGONDA, DEC. 6. The BJP State unit president, N. Indrasena Reddy, held the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, responsible for the verdict delivered by the apex court on categorisation of the Scheduled Castes.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Reddy demanded that the State Government pass a resolution favouring classification of SCs into A,B,C and D and mount pressure on the Centre to enact a legislation to this effect.

As per the Constitution, 15 per cent of funds should be allocated for the uplift of SCs and STs, but the Congress Government had been diverting the funds for other purpose depriving the weaker sections of their due share, he alleged.

Free power

The Government was diluting all the welfare schemes launched by the Telugu Desam, the BJP leader alleged.

The previous Government supplied free power to SC and ST colonies but it was stopped by the Congress Government though it had won the election on the free power plank, he pointed out.

Mr. Reddy also asked the Government to expedite the head regulator works on the Srisailam tunnel project.

It was the only solution that enables supply of water to Nalgonda from Srisailam on permanent basis, he opined.

Referring to tie-up with the TDP for the coming local body elections, the BJP leader said the decision was left to district units.
