A `prestige issue' for YSR

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, advised the Ministers to take the coming municipal elections as a prestige issue and work for the victory of the ruling dispensation.

At the Cabinet meeting on Saturday, Dr. Reddy reportedly said that Rs.1.5 crores was being spent by the Roads and Buildings Department in each municipality and advised the district and in-charge ministers to take the responsibility of a positive outcome in the elections.

The Cabinet also felt that there was no need to lift the ban on transfers as the Ministers and the Chief Minister had the powers to effect them for administrative convenience or in case of irregularities. The lifting of the ban might create a headache to the Government with scores of transfer-seekers camping here.
