A doctor's noble mission

HYDERABAD MARCH 30. In these days of greed and adoption of questionable means to earn easy money, more so by Government employees, who abuse their position for it, here is a doctor attached to the Government Homoeopathic Hospital, Ramanthapur, who has donated Rs. 42 lakhs to the institution for its development during the last three decades.

S. Sohan Singh, who is related to well-known writer and freedom fighter, Thapi Dharma Rao, has raised the amount by selling his ancestral property in Jubilee Hills, Amberpet and Kukatpally. Besides, Dr. Singh, who belongs to a family of agriculturists of Ravulapadu in Gudivada mandal, obtained loans and pledged his pensionary benefits so that the amount could be collected.

He made the donations through Dharma Kiran Trust, set up in the name of his son, Kiran (24) who was killed in a road accident six years ago while studying engineering at Bidar.

Why he is so philanthropic? He has told a press conference that after the death of Kiran and migration of his daughter to the US, he had decided to devote his life for development of homeopathy. His daughter also sends money to complement his efforts. His donations resulted in creation of much-needed infrastructure at the hospital, one of the biggest in the country.

Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Singh, who is a member of the Central Council of Homoeopathy, the hospital has pathological and biochemistry labs, gynaecology and paediatric wads, an open auditorium, anatomy dissection hall, library building, an 80-bed hospital, a building to house pharmacy and patient attendant's block.

Besides, he contributed to the building for anatomy department at the Government Homoeo Hospital, Gudivada, and a conference hall at the Government Homoeo Hospital, Cuddapah, a patient's attendant kitchen at the Government hospital, Vijayawada, and construction of a ward at the hospital.

Set to retire in two years, Dr. Singh promises to continue his service for development of homoeo system of medicine.

"My aim is to provide modern facilities to students and patients and strive for recognition to homeopathy on par with modern system of medicine.''
