Yerran decries CM's stand on Babli issue

Telugu Desam polit bureau member K. Yerran Naidu on Thursday came down heavily on Chief Minister K. Rosaiah for ignoring the interests of the State over the controversial Babli project.

While nine Telangana districts would be hit hard due to ‘illegal' constructions by Maharashtra, Mr. Rosaiah and other Congress leaders from the State were adopting a soft stand on the issue, he told reporters.

Mr. Naidu said the TD was trying through various ways to exert pressure on the Centre to restrain Maharashtra from going ahead with the construction work. “With five members in Lok Sabha, we could raise a ruckus and stall the House proceedings so as to continue pressure on the Centre. But it's a shame that senior Congress leaders and the ruling party MPs from the State are silent over Babli,” he said. The TD leader charged the Congress leaders with mortgaging the interest of the people and the State and cited how all the parties in Maharashtra buried their differences and strongly backed the Ashok Chavan Government's stand on Babli. He said the Rosaiah Government was showing scant interest in North Andhra. Forty people died in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram due to swine flu and other fevers but the district in-charge Ministers had not taken serious note of it.
