YVU urged to publish Vemana dictionary

University to accord priority to studies on Vemana, Veerabrahmam and C.P. Brown, says Vice-Chancellor

KADAPA: Vemana Foundation secretary K. Jitendra Babu on Saturday favoured publication of a dictionary of words used by Yogi Vemana and the notes written by Charles Phillip Brown. The dictionary must be procured from Madras Oriental Library, as it contained the local dialect of Rayalaseema, Mr. Jitendra Babu said during the valedictory session of a seminar on ‘Prajakavi Vemana – re-evaluation. He wanted wider propagation of Vemana’s poems.


Yogi Vemana University Vice-Chancellor A. Ramachandra Reddy, who was the chief guest, said the university would accord priority to studies on Yogi Vemana, Veerabrahmam and C.P. Brown. The varsity was conducting ‘sadassus’ and cultural programmes without financial considerations.

YVU Principal Vali Pasha appreciated the efforts of the university’s Telugu department for organising the seminar on Vemana.

In the earlier sessions during the seminar, Dr. P. Sanjeevamma spoke on women in Vemana’s poetry, Dr. Balasubrahmanyam spoke on Vemana poetry – human relations, N.C. Ramasubba Reddy on Vemana poetry – mythological issues, P. Hanumanth Reddy on the research and criticism of Vemana poems, C. Govindaraju on human rights and Vemana poetry and M. Ravi Kumar on economic and social outlook in Vemana poems.
