VISAKHAPATNAM: Projects estimated at Rs.719 crores will be launched at the public meeting to be addressed by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and others at Gajuwaka on May 10.


The projects being launched include drinking water schemes costing Rs.326.50 crores, basic amenities Rs.193 crores, housing and other infrastructure under JNNURM Rs.187.87 crores and bank linkage for DWCRA Rs.12 crores.

All the works will be taken up in Gajuwaka area.

Pre-poll promise

After a review meeting with party leaders, City Congress Committee president and Visakha-I MLA Dronamraju Srinivas told reporters on Thursday that the meeting, to be addressed by Union Ministers P. Chidambaram, Santosh Mohan Dev, S. Jaipal Reddy, Jairam Ramesh and Raghunath Jha would be a very big event.

Stating that the Congress was solely responsible for taking over of the Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, he said this was a major pre-poll promise made by the Congress.

He also thanked State Commercial Tax Minister Konathala Ramakrishna and MPs N. Janardhan Reddy and T. Subbarami Reddy for their efforts.

Among others, Visakha-II and Pendurthi MLAs S. Rangaraju, Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, Deputy Mayor Dorababu, PCC general secretary Y. Mariadas, former VUDA Chairman P.S.N. Raju and INTUC leader Mantri Rajasekhar were present.
