VISAKHAPATNAM: As winter chill sets in, it is time to sing Christmas carols and ring in the joy of Christmas. The festivities have started well ahead of Christmas heralding the spirit of peace and brotherhood that the festival signifies. The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) celebrated Christmas on a colourful note here on Saturday night.

The chief guest was Rev. Thomas Babu, Vicar, Marthoma Syrian Church. He spoke about the significance of the festival. YMCA president Rolland Williams welcomed the gathering.

A colourfully decorated Christmas tree greeted people at the venue. Pomp and gaiety marked the celebrations as cakes were distributed and stories of the birth of Jesus Christ were narrated. Carols bring in the Christmas mood. The crowd that gathered at YMCA enjoyed the carols sung by the YMCA Choir.

A special song was sung by Dr.Ryo Takahashi, Tabernacle Choir, USA.

With his smiling face and relentless good cheer ‘Santa Claus’ brought a smile on the faces of the children who ran after him collecting sweets and gifts. A mass candle-lighting ceremony concluded the function. The vote of thanks was given by Vice-President P. Stany Sundar Raj.
