GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation and Divisional Railway, Guntur on Saturday began the widening of the Butchaiahthota First Lane with Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao formally launching the works.

The long-pending need for an alternative to reach the Guntur-Vijayawada (Autonagar) Approach Road will be fulfilled by widening the road from 20 feet to 33 feet by taking 1,648 square yards from the Railways for which request was being made from 1996.

Guntur Municipal Commissioner Siddhartha Jain handed over a cheque for Rs.17 lakh to Divisional Railway Manager Mohammed Akhtar at the works launch function along side the Guntur - Tenali Railway track.

The Railway Board nod came after a long waiting and initially land for land was asked. The Mayor Rayapati Mohansai Krishna started the works by beginning demolition of boundary wall.

Deputy Mayor Shaik Ghouse and other GMC officials were present on the occasion.

The road would provide a direct link between NTR Bus station and Railway Station decongesting all the main roads in the city and travel to Vijayawada would be made easy.
