Water scarcity: action plan prepared

Kakinada: An action plan has been prepared to tackle drinking water scarcity in 250 villages in the district with an outlay of Rs 7 crores. A sum of Rs 60 lakh was released by the Government recently for the purpose, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said during the Grievances' Day program at the DWMA conference hall here on Monday. District, division and mandal level control rooms were formed to monitor the situation in view of the possibility of acute scarcity during the peak summer months. Efforts were being made to mitigate the scarcity being faced by crops in about 3,000 spread across 15 villages in nine mandals. Shift system was being followed in these areas and water being drawn from canals using motors to meet the requirement. Joint Collector K Sasidhar, additional Joint Collector B Rama Rao, in-charge DRO Ramakrishna and others were present.
