Victory rallies banned

VIJAYAWADA: The counting of votes for the Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency and the seven Assembly constituencies that come under it proceeded without any trouble at V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College and P.V.P. Siddhartha Institute of Technology (PVP SIT) at Kanuru on the city outskirts on Saturday.

Vehicular traffic was not allowed on the stretch between Benz Circle and college from the early hours of the day. Huge police ‘bandobust’ was arranged on the road and at the counting station as well. The staff deputed for the counting duties, counting agents of various political parties and the media representatives were frisked thoroughly before they were allowed into the premises. As mobile phones were not allowed into counting halls, election staff, agents and the police personnel who were deputed to the counting halls were curious to know about the verdict of the people of the State and the nation. They swarmed the media centre arranged on the premises of PVP SIT to know updates several times. The outside broadcasting vans of the television channels came in handy for the police constables, who were guarding the counting station to know the updates.
