Varun Maruti in the city on Thursday launched `Alto K10' with 1000 cc engine, new cable-type transmission, and other features.

Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, who unveiled the new car, felt it would attract the middle class people since its high mileage of 20 km for a litre of petrol was irresistible.

Bumper lucky draw

Managing Director of Varun Group V. Prabhu Kishore rolled out a bumper lucky draw scheme on the occasion of the 14 {+t} {+h} anniversary of Varun Maruti in the city for all purchases between August 1 and 31. The first prize of the draw would be a Bajaj Platina 125 cc and the second prize a Sony 26 inches LCD TV.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kishore said gone were the days of 1970s when one was forced to buy an Ambassador or Fiat car.

“We had to be content with only minor changes in the so-called upgraded versions of mark II or III. Today we have as many as dozen companies and 50 to 60 models to choose from. Also, every company comes out with a complete new car once in six months or one year with new features. At Maruti we upgrade the features. Last year, our market share was 50 per cent. But still without being overconfident new products are introduced for the benefit of the customer and dealer,” he said.

Tracing the success of Varun Motors, he said from a sales of 50 cars a month, it was now able to sell 1500 cars a month and as many as 12,000 cars through all its showrooms in the State.

Later, talking to reporters, Mr. Kishore said the different between Alto 800 and Alto 1000 was a mere Rs.30,000 for the corresponding model. The ex-showroom price of the new Alto K10 models range from Rs.3.1 lakh to Rs.3.26 lakh.

Earlier, Director of Varun Motors Subba Rao said he hoped the sales of Alto cars would increase from the present 80 to 100 in the city showroom with the introduction of the new version.

Area Service Manager of Maruti, Maheswaran, was present.
