ONGOLE: Police arrested three educated youths for allegedly snatching chains and lifting motorcycles in the town.

Two of the arrested persons were doing engineering in SSN engineering college here while the third person is doing B Sc here.

Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police, V. Navinchand said that it was a team of five youths, three of them doing engineering course and two others doing science graduation in the colleges here.

All of them hailed from decent middle class families, their parents being a lawyer, a station master and a bank employee.

They were accustomed to high living and to meet their expenses they resorted to chain snatching and motorcycle lifting.

Their modus operandi was to go in twos and threes riding a motor cycle and choose their victims - mostly women going alone in deserted streets.

They followed them into lanes and bylanes, snatch their gold chains and speed away.

Police arrested three youths on Tuesday and recovered 32 sovereigns of gold ornaments, two motorcycles and two cell phones from them. Two other accused are at large and attempts are being made to nab them, he said.
