NALGONDA: Three migrant labourers hailing from Mahabubnagar district died and eight others sustained injuries when the lorry on which they were travelling fell into a culvert at Garidepally on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Katraju Lingamma (30), Banumuru Gurvamma (50) and Ramulu (9), the Sub Inspector Neelakantham Janardhan said on Monday.

The labourers belonged to Appaipally in Lingala mandal of Mahabubnagar district and they migrated to Rajahmundry in search of work four months ago. They were on their way to a village in Mahabubnagar district to take part in a jatara.

They had come to Kodad from Rajahmundry by bus. "As they didn't have enough money to travel by a bus, they boarded a cement-laden lorry going to Anantapur from Mellacheruvu," he said.

The SI said that the contractor, who was constructing the diversion road, didn't put a signboard near the diversion road resulting in the tragedy. The youngsters of Garidepally helped police in the midnight rescue operations.
