GUNTUR: Three youngsters from Mangalagiri died on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding hit a stationary lorry on NH-5 in the early hours of Saturday.

They were identified as Devarapalli Venkateswara Rao, 25, Chintalapudi Siva Koteswara Rao, 22, (driving the vehicle) and Karempudi Prasad, 35.

Goldsmiths by profession, they were returning after attending Mahasivaratri festivities at Quarry village near Vegendla at 1.30 a.m.

They dashed against the lorry carrying teakwood from Nellore to Vijayawada, leading to their instantaneous death.

However, the Mangalagiri police, quoting some eyewitnesses, said that both the lorry and the motorcycle were in motion and that sudden breaks applied by the lorry driver lead to the accident.

The motorists could not see in the dark the projection of the logs on the rear side of the lorry as there was no caution bulb. The lorry driver was absconding.
