Huge rush for the "kode kattuta'' ritual

KARIMNAGAR: The abode of Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanams, Vemulawada, reverberated with the chants of "Om namah sivaya" with the arrival of hordes of devotees to participate in the Mahasivaratri jatara celebrations on Friday.

Several thousands of devotees from various parts of the State had a holy dip in the `Dharmagundam' tank before offering prayers to the presiding deity Siva. It is believed that a dip in the tank would cure a person of all his aliments.

The Devasthanam authorities had put up a thatched roof on the queue lines to protect the devotees from the scorching sun. There was a huge rush for the "kode kattuta'' (tying of ox). Local shops and hotels were doing roaring business.
