VIJAYAWADA: The purity and freshness of nature is amazing. The powerful and magical charm of nature touches every soul but not all behave responsibly to protect this pristine beauty for posterity.

Management and staff of The Gateway Hotel on Tuesday donned a new role of nature conservationists and hit the road to spread the message of greenness.

Sporting white T-shirts with green borders, the staff and the officials of the management stepped out of their cosy chambers to urge people around to join efforts aimed at protecting the green cover.

The ‘Green March’ was part of the week-long events organised by the hotel to mark the World Environment Day celebrations. Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal flagged off the rally at the hotel and participated in it by walking up to Benz Circle.

Mr. Uppal and hotel’s managing director Mallineni Rajaiah led the team of nature aficionados, who displayed a banner that made it known to the world their zeal to do their bit in protecting the Mother Nature.

Mr. Uppal said conservation of environment was a collective responsibility and, therefore, every individual must contribute his mite to the green drive.

Earlier, Mr. Uppal and Mr. Rajaiah planted saplings at the lobby. Joining forces that have been making desperate efforts to prevent the rapid depletion of the green cover, the hotel took the initiative by placing potted plants in its lobby and offering a green menu in its restaurant.

It also conducted a contest in coining constructive slogans on nature, distributed green ribbons and saplings as part of its efforts to create awareness among public.
