Telugu University announces annual literary awards

HYDERABAD: Potti Sriramulu Telugu University has announced its annual literary awards for the year 2006, given in 10 different categories apart from the best woman writer and best Sanskrit pandit.

Announcing the awards on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor Avula Manjulatha said that works released between January 2004 and December 2006 were considered for the awards.

Works identified

She said 266 works had been identified of which 53 were shortlisted by a team of 30 literary experts. The final 10 works were selected after another round of scrutiny by a team of 34 experts.

She said each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 20,116 and a citation and they would be presented on December 24 at a function to be held at the University.


The awardees are – Vadrevu China Veerabhadrudu (free verse), Mallemala (verse poetry), Dasari Venkataramana (children’s literature), Pulikanti Krishna Reddy (short story), V. Shanti Prabodha (novel), Koduri Sriramamurthy (literary critic), Meegada Ramalingaswamy (playwrite), Rahmath Yousuf Jahi (translation) and C.V. Rajagopala Rao (Others).

In the best woman writer category Unnava Vijayalakshmi will get the award while Vishnubhatla Subrahmanya Shastri will receive the award of the best Sanskrit scholar.
