Telgi sentenced to 5-year RI

VISAKHAPATNAM: The kingpin in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Kareem Telgi, and another accused Mallesh Balanna were on Wednesday sentenced to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs.1,000 in each of the five crimes.

The offence was committed in 2000 under various police stations in the city. The Second Additional Sessions Judge, Ch. Manavendranath Roy, sentenced the accused after they admitted their guilt in the cases filed against them.

The accused had sold fake stamp papers worth Rs. 30,000 crore.

The case against six other accused was separated and their case posted for trial on March 10.
