TRS activists, former city MLAs detained by police

HYDERABAD: Former city legislators T. Padma Rao and Nayani Narsimha Reddy were detained by the police for sometime along with workers of TRS after they blocked traffic at Alwal on the busy Rajiv Gandhi National Highway to protest against the damaging of a statue of Telangana Talli at Alwal cross roads on Saturday.

The TRS workers alleged that the statue was damaged by those opposed to bifurcation of the State. They squatted on the road blocking traffic and the police swiftly moved in to restore order.

The statue was installed a few months ago on Alwal ‘T’ junction. On Saturday morning, locality people noticed that the small platform and the left arm of the statue were damaged.

The police booked a case under section 427 (mischief causing damage to property) of IPC following a complaint lodged by TRS leaders.
