Taxi operators take out rally

TIRUPATI: Operators and drivers of private taxis on Tuesday took out a procession through the main streets here protesting against the meteoric rise in the prices of petroleum products. Their CITU-sponsored rally which started from the taxi-stand located outside the railway station culminated at the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Urban), Tirupati. They presented a memorandum to the DSP seeking a corresponding increase in their taxi fares to meet the rise in operational costs.

The operators dispersed after DSP Rajaiah promised to come out with a positive solution to their demand within two days after consulting the officials of the Transport Department.
