TRS contests Speaker’s claim

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has contested the claim of Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy that the party had delayed presenting arguments in support of its demand for disqualification of nine rebel TRS MLAs and challenged him to put to public scrutiny minutes of the meetings convened by him to decide the case.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, TRS leaders -- G. Vijayarama Rao, Naini Narasimha Reddy and S. Madhusudhanachary -- held the Speaker responsible for the delay as it was he who dragged matters after the rebel MLAs openly defied the party by nominating Kasani Gnaneshwar in the elections to the Legislative Council.

The Speaker failed to act on the complaint against the rebel MLAs immediately as he wanted to ensure they did not face by-elections.

If the polls were caused on account of their timely disqualification, they would have been ineligible to contest the same as per provisions of the anti-defection law, they said.

They alleged that the Speaker timed his decision to accept the resignation of six MLAs and disqualify three others in a way that his act did not force by-elections.
