TDP complains to Election Commission

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party has charged the Congress candidate from Dichpally Assembly constituency in Nizamabad, Akula Lalitha and the Energy Minister, Mohd. Shabbir Ali, with violating model code of conduct and the Election Commission’s order.

In a complaint sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, the party general secretary, M. A. Sharif, said that the candidate accompanied by the Minister took hundreds of their slogan shouting followers in a number of vehicles into the Returning Officer’s office at the time of filing her nomination papers.

This was against the Commission’s order that the maximum number of vehicles to be allowed within the 100 metre periphery of Returning Officer’s office will be three and the number of persons, four, besides the candidate, he said. At an all party meeting conducted by the Chief Electoral Officer here on May 3, it was made clear that the nomination papers will be rejected if this rule was violated. The TDP leader demanded action against the candidate accordingly.
