TDP asks its district units to conduct survey of assigned lands

Party resolves to launch massive land struggle for poor

No influential person to be spared

Cadres to pitch flags on illegal lands

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has asked its district units to undertake a survey of all assigned, forest and other Government lands in ‘illegal’ possession of influential persons and prepare a list of such lands within a month.

This decision was taken at a review meeting that the TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu had with the presidents of the district units here on Saturday. The meeting resolved to launch a massive land struggle so that all eligible landless poor were allotted lands and house-sites. The party extended support to the on-going ‘Bhoo Poratam’ of the Left parties.

Briefing reporters later, party general secretary Kadiam Srihari and polit bureau member Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy said once the list was prepared, the cadres would launch an agitation and pitch flags on such lands. “The TDP will not keep quiet till the Government relents and allots land to all eligible people,” Mr. Srihari said.

They said no influential person would be spared, if he was found to be in possession of Government land ‘illegally’. The administration should not auction Government lands till the landless got house-sites and agriculture lands, they said.

No differentiation

When asked whether the TDP would occupy the lands belonging to Ramoji and Sanghi group of companies that were declared surplus by the Land Reforms Tribunal, Mr. Srihari said the party did not differentiate between any individual when it came to surplus assigned lands. “We do not have any reason to support any individual,” he replied.

Mr. Reddy alleged that several Congress leaders were enjoying assigned lands and demanded that the Government initiate action against them. “All such lands should be distributed among the poor,” he demanded.
