Spat over Telangana issue in Nalgonda district; Jana, Damodar Reddy absent

M. Narasimhulu interrupts Chief Minister by raising Telangana issue

Focus on improving standards of Government schools, says Rosaiah

HYDERABAD: In contrast to the smooth sailing in the three district review meetings he presided over so far, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah was witness to a spat over the Telangana issue at a meeting with the elected representatives of Nalgonda on Monday.

At the outset, Mr. Rosaiah made it clear that purpose of the meeting was to review scores of welfare and development programmes and indirectly referred to Telangana agitation by stating that there was no solution for it at the State level. Even as he was speaking, TDP MLA M. Narasimhulu interrupted him by raising Telangana issue.

A visibly irked Mr. Rosaiah quipped that he should first hear him about the purpose and agenda of the review meeting and air his opinions later. But Mr. Narasimhulu continued with the Telangana issue and said that he wanted to highlight that 200 students died so far and he should take the lead in keeping people of both the regions happy, At this juncture, IT Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy retorted if only their party president N. Chandrababu Naidu had cooperated, there would not have been any problem.

Welfare programmes

Mr. Rosaiah intervened to say that “while priority should have been given to implementation of government programmes, we are wasting time and energy over an issue which could only be resolved at national level. Only when legislators focussed on implementation of welfare programmes, they could make officials work more efficiently, he added.

The Chief Minister urged the leaders to focus on improving standards of Government schools as the poor were compelled to opt for private schools that were perceived better.

He also asked them to come forward with their views on quality of seven-hour power supply to farmers in the face of growing demand, public distribution system, implementation of Arogyasri, housing programme and pensions. While MLAs, MPs, MLCs of Congress, TDP, CPI, CPI (M) and independents were present, Congress MLAs K. Jana Reddy and R. Damodar Reddy skipped the meeting.
