TD chief’s Fresh@ stands ‘exposed’

HYDERABAD: Stung by Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s protest on Assembly premises against spiralling prices of vegetables, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) exposed his ‘hollow’ claims by rushing to Fresh@ retail chain run by Heritage Foods only to find the rates on the higher side.

A five-member CLP team comprising – E.Pratap Reddy, Bajireddy Goverdhan, Janga Krishnamoorthy, B.Vedavyas and P. Chengalrayudu – visited the Fresh@ outlet at Red Hills in the capital on Saturday afternoon. They purchased vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, carrot, onion, radish, chillies and leafy spinach for Rs. 221.

The team came back and compared the prices of these vegetables with those prevailing at Rythu Bazaars. To their surprise, they found Fresh@ selling tomatoes for Rs. 28.90 a kg while the same was available at Rs. 16 in the Rythu Bazaar. Prices of carrot, onion, chillies and potatoes were sold at higher rates varying between Rs. 2 to Rs. 20 per kg. The difference in the price ranged from 100 to 150 per cent, Mr. Bajireddy Goverdhan, who visited the outlet, told reporters here.

At a press conference, he derided Mr. Naidu saying, “a man, whose outlets sell vegetables and other products at high price has no right to talk.”
