Summons to be served on Minister

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: Judicial First Class Magistrate of Chintapalli J. Naga Seshaiah on Tuesday directed the Superintendent of Police of Visakhapatnam to serve summons on Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju in connection with an election case filed against him.

Mr. Balaraju had allegedly detained the Returning Officer of Paderu constituency by force, on the polling day. The G.K. Veedhi police booked a case against him and the Magistrate served summons on him to appear in the court. Last month, the Magistrate issued orders to the SP when the G.K. Veedhi police expressed their inability to serve the summons, with directions to the Minister to appear in the court on Tuesday.

Another case

In another election-related case, in which Mr. Balaraju and nine others had allegedly detained a voter (a government employee who came to G.K. Veedhi to cast his vote) at his house on the polling day, Mr. Naga Seshaiah issued summons to the Minister and others and ordered the police to serve the summons. Both cases were adjourned to September 24.
