Kakinada: The District Sports Authority (DSA) is conducting summer camps for children in age group of 8-14 at 20 places in the district to nurture their sporting talents. The camps will train the children in athletics, boxing, basketball, football, hockey, judo, weightlifting etc.

Announcing this at a meeting of in-charges of the camps, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said he would take steps for provision of sporting infrastructure in the DSA stadium and elsewhere to enable the children to hone their skills. He instructed District Sports Development Officer S. Venkataramana to submit proposals for the facilities needed in the DSA stadium and select government schools.

The Collector said he would also look into the proposals for giving away cash awards to school children who excel in national and State-level sporting events, upon being requested by coaches and suggested to them to keep the children physically and also mentally fit to take on the future challenges.

Zilla Parishad chairman Ch.Venugopala Krishna said the summer camps would be helpful to the children in improving their skills in different sports and games and thereby prepare themselves for tournaments at the highest level.
