NIZAMABAD: Minister for School Education Damodar Rajanarsimha on Thursday laid the foundation for a lift irrigation scheme.

The scheme costing Rs.20 crore is being constructed on the Godavari at Degoam in Armoor mandal. Once completed, it will provide water to 4,000 acres in the mandal.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajanarsimha said the scheme would help boost agriculture in Degoam and its surrounding villages which remained parched all these years despite being located on the banks of the Godavari. The Armoor and the Balkonda Assembly constituencies had highest number of LI schemes in the State, he said.

Presiding over the meeting, Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy said it was unfortunate that hundreds of farmer families suffered untold miseries in all these days due to burning of motors and lack of water in borewells.
