Steps to avoid power-cut at night, says discom chief

VIZIANAGARAM: Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited Praveen Prakash has assured domestic consumers that load shedding during nights will be avoided to the extent possible, if necessary, by imposing cuts on industries.

Speaking at the 16th anniversary celebrations of the operation circle at Ananda Gajapathi Auditorium here on Wednesday night, Mr. Praveen Prakash said the gap between demand and supply had increased from 8 mw to 20 mw and added that efforts were being made to begin production in gas-based Vemagiri, Konaseema and G.V.K. units.

While instructing power staff to work with responsibility in view of the severe power crisis, the CMD said the present system of informing consumers in Visakhapatnam of power cut through SMS would be introduced shortly in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
