TTD officials meet UPA chairperson during transit halt

TIRUPATI: The UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi who landed at the Tirupati airport from New Delhi for a brief transit halt before hopping into her waiting chopper to proceed to Nellore to take part in her engagements there was presented with the holy prasadams of Lord Venkateswara.

As a rare gesture of honour, TTD Trust Board Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy presented Sonia Gandhi with the Lord’s ‘Melchaththu’ (silk vastram) while the chief priest Venkatramana Deekshitulu offered her the holy laddu and other prasadams on the airport tarmac where the officials and non-officials lined up to extend a warm welcome to her.

Among those who accompanied Sonia from Delhi were Panabaka Lakshmi, Central Minister and AICC general secretary and in-charge of A.P. affairs Veerappa Moily.

YSR arrives ahead

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who arrived at the airport from Hyderabad ahead of Sonia Gandhi by his helicopter gave a hearty welcome to the UPA chairperson as she disembarked from her aircraft. He introduced the other guests to Sonia as they offered her bouquets and the conventional Congress ‘kanduva’. They included the PCC president D. Srinivas, Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma, district Ministers R. Chenga Reddy and G. Arunakumari, Tirupati MP Chintha Mohan, MLA M. Venkatramana, District Collector M. Ravichandra, IGP (Rayalaseema), R.P. Thakur, P. Lakshmi Reddy, SP, besides MLAs, MLCs and other district party leaders.

Later, the UPA chairperson and other leaders took off to Nellore in two separate helicopters.
