VISAKHAPATNAM: Six NSS volunteers from Andhra University are participating in the ongoing Republic Day Parade camp in New Delhi.

Of the 32 lakh NSS volunteers in the country, 178 had been selected for the prestigious Republic Day Parade camp purely on merit and it was a great achievement on the part of Andhra University as it contributed six out of the 18 selected from the 3.25 lakh volunteers in Andhra Pradesh, AU’s NSS Programme Coordinator P. Ramachandra Rao said.

The six are G. Karuna Sri of Chaitanya Degree College, Gajuwaka; P. Swati of St. Ann’s Degree College, Malkapuram; D. Naga Gopi Priya of St. Theresa’s College, Eluru; Ch. Venkata Rao of Government Degree College, S. Kota; D. Shakuntala Devi and M. Surekha, both from Aditya Degree College, Rajahmundry. M.S.N. Reddy is the team leader.

During the one-month camp being held from January 1, the participants were interacting with intellectuals, practising the Republic Day march-past, participating in the cultural programmes and other activities.

They would meet the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Governor and Chief Minister of Delhi.

Participating in the Republic Day camp was a golden opportunity for a student, Prof. Ramachandra Rao said.

He thanked Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana, Rector B. Parvateeswara Rao, Registrar P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy, Assistant Programme Advisor K. Rajendran, State Liaison Officer B. Bhaskara Rao and others for supporting the six NSS volunteers.
