Shivlal withdraws resignation

HYDERABAD: On a day when ‘take-over bids’ dominate the economic front, a similar compromise formula which could have seen Dr. M. V. Sridhar, incumbent vice-president of Hyderabad Cricket Associaton (HCA) and N. Shivlal Yadav, incumbent secretary, swap positions was set aside.

Shivlal Yadav had resigned a few weeks ago on the grounds that he and his family members were targeted by some in the HCA and that “all false and personal allegations were being levelled against them”.

Amidst this backdrop, the formula was mooted by Shivlal himself on Monday and he was even successful in ensuring that the two strong contenders – D. S. Chalapathi (joint secretary) and Sridhar work together in the interest of HCA.

But, the scenario changed completely at the Gymkhana meeting on Tuesday evening. The 172 club secretaries of the total 220 who assembled there did not allow Shivlal to speak.

They wanted to him back as secretary. Shivlal’s option that he would be the vice-president was not considered at all.

Interestingly, Sridhar conveyed to Shivlal that he would not be in the HCA if the latter would quit. So was the case with most of the other office-bearers.

Significantly, the meeting was confined to only those who earlier gave a representation to G. Vinod, Cabinet Minister and president of HCA, stating that Shivlal should retain his secretaryship.
