Sericulture farmers’ mela begins

VIZIANAGARAM: The two-day North Andhra sericulture farmers’ mela began at Masonic temple here on Wednesday. The meeting began on a low-key following the death of former President R. Venkataraman. Scientists from Central Silk Board D. Subba Rao (Vijayawada) and Damodaram Naidu (Eluru) and progressive farmers M. Venkatarama Reddy from Dhanapuram, Parigi mandal in Anantapur district, P. Venkatarama Reddy from P. Kothapalle and S. Mehbub Basha, Hindupur besides 200 farmers from the three North Andhra districts participated.

The objective of the programme was to create awareness among farmers on latest technologies being offered for improving production and productivity, said Joint Director (Sericulture) B. Konam Raju. Project Director (Micro Irrigation) I. Satyanarayana and others spoke.
