Security at polling stations beefed up for biennial elections

Hyderabad: The GHMC Commissioner S.P. Singh requested the police officials to beef up security at the polling stations for the forthcoming biennial elections of the Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar constituency to be held on February 6.

Reviewing the election arrangements at a meeting held here on Saturday, he asked the police officials of the three districts to set up armed pickets at sensitive and hypersensitive areas. He instructed the authorities to establish frisking points and check posts to restrict the entry of anti social elements at the polling booths, said a press release. A total of 413 polling stations were arranged, of which, 97 would be set up at Mahabubnagar, 165 in Ranga Reddy and 151 in Hyderabad district. Over 2,000 polling personnel would be deployed for the smooth conduct of the elections. Over 2 lakh voters were enrolled from the three districts and counting of votes would be taken up on Feb. 9.
