Hike likely

He said a proposal was under consideration of the government for enhancing the wages of home guards to Rs. 4,500. Some 40 home guards were recruited as constables in the district so far. There could be a similar recruitment drive in the State very soon, and the home guards with eligibility should gear up for the occasion by taking care of their physical fitness and mental ability.

The Superintendent of Police stressed the need for creating better awareness among the people about the role being played by home guards in society. He said the department had been giving employment opportunity for at least one member from the families of home guards who died in service. Five such appointments were made so far and a few more such applications were pending.
