Row over appointment of in-charge librarian

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: The Chittoor district unit of the AP Scheduled Castes Welfare Association on Thursday joined issue with the authorities of the Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam, Tirupati for its alleged arbitrary decision in the appointment of the ‘in-charge’ librarian to the university in the place of the regular librarian who demitted office on June, 30.

Association members gathered outside the meeting hall where the university’s Executive Council was in session and held demonstrations against the alleged injustice done to an assistant librarian, an SC incumbent already officiating as the university’s in-charge Librarian. They protested against the ‘questionable’ decision of the university authorities replacing her with another incumbent belonging to the OC category. They alleged violation of the court directions in the replacement of the SC candidate with an OC incumbent .

It was all because she belonged to the Scheduled Castes, they alleged in the memorandum submitted to Vice-Chancellor G. Sarojamma.

They threatened to intensify their agitation if the ‘injustice’ was not rectified.
