Mala Mahanadu for united Dalit struggle
HYDERABAD: Mala Mahanadu has invited its rival Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) to join hands with it in strengthening the Dalit movement in the State.
Mala Mahanadu president and MLC J. Prabhakara Rao has advised his MRPS counterpart Manda Krishna not to keep Dalits away from their struggle for power in the name of categorisation of scheduled castes, setting aside major problems related to land and unemployment faced by Dalits. He was speaking at a meeting organised on Saturday in connection with the 10th anniversary of the police firing on agitating Malas in the city during which two people died. Stressing the need to launch a united struggle for mounting pressure on the Government for distribution of land to Dalits, Mr. Rao wanted madigas not to fall prey to the propaganda of the Left parties on land struggles. He demanded that the Government distribute the lands identified as excess with Ramoji Rao and Sanghi Group to Dalits.
Steps should be initiated to provide reservations in private sector replicating the Uttar Pradesh model where the Government was insisting on 30 per cent quota – 10 per cent each to Dalits, backward classes and poor among the upper castes – in the private sector for availing incentives.
