Revive yoga centre: CPI (M)

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: The CPI (M) has on Thursday expressed its anguish over the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)’s yoga centre being in a state of hibernation for the last two decades after having a hoary past.

The centre when established by the TTD about three decades ago, also had a college and a hostel attached to it with stalwarts in yoga like Dr. Melkote and Ramananda Yogi serving it as its beacon lights in its initial days. It also had a bio-medical engineering wing, research lab and a hospital, all of which are now non-existent with the centre going into dormancy.

In an appeal made to the TTD’s Executive Officer, the State secretariat member of the CPI (M), K. Murali regretted that the once full-fledged yoga centre which also used to boast of its own library with rare books on yoga and allied subjects should now go dysfunctional due to lack of patronage from the TTD management.

Mr. Murali said that if only the TTD once again turned its focus on the centre by refurbishing its building, library, laboratory and by appointing qualified persons to its teaching and non-teaching posts, it could achieve its lost glory in no time and could even become a Yoga University with the Devasthanams as the nucleus.
