Hyderabad: It’s a problem that has been dogging the residents of Happy Homes Colony Upparpally, Chevella for the past few months. A revised voter list that was recently released by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) pertaining to the colony is filled with discrepancies.

The lackadaisical attitude of authorities concerned is quite visible in the revised voter list of the colony which comes under Rajendranagar Assembly constituency.

Residents say that mistakes in the first voter list was brought to the notice of authorities last year, but still several errors cropped up in the revised list.

“Officials had come and went around the area for 15 days collecting information and taking pictures. When the second voter list was released, the mistakes got repeated,” complains T.R. Madhavan, Secretary of Happy Homes Housing Palace Flat Owners Welfare Association.

Apart from several names being repeated, most of the surnames were either wrongly spelt or missing.

Moheed Shareef, president of Happy Homes Avenue, says: My name was printed wrongly as ‘Shareef Mohammed’ in the list as well as the voter ID card. If such mistakes occur in a document that is considered important, then authorities should take appropriate measures to curb such discrepancies from creeping into the list.

Surprisingly, a name of a deceased resident, P. Janaki, also popped up in the revised list.

“My mother passed away recently and I had notified the officers to delete her name from the list. But still her name figures,” sighs Mr. Madhavan. Many male names got in the female voter lists and vice versa. “Officials should ensure that data entry is done properly and the voter list is error free,” pleads Panduranga Pai, another resident.
