KAZIPET (WARANGAL DT.): The contribution of a group of people to the inmates of Home for the Aged and Disabled, Kazipet, is invaluable.

Having read about charity work by a group of friends in a newspaper, E. J. Cyriac and his friends formed ‘St Vincent De’ Paul Society in 1990. For the last 14 years, they have been religiously providing breakfast to the inmates of the home run by St. Ann’s Sisters of Providence on Sundays. Many people have com forward to contribute to the society.

Service-minded

“Initially we thought about carrying the service for a year, but it continues even today after 14 years. Some people donate for this purpose to celebrate a happy occasion in their family, say a birthday or marriage day or something good happening to them,” says Cyriac.

There are about 50 physically challenged girls and aged women, some destitute and some deserted by children.

Most of them are visually, physically and mentally challenged who were embraced by the Sisters referred to them.

A tradition

Come Sunday, all the inmates squat in the front yard of the House and wait eagerly for Ambrose, Pratap Kumar, Benny and Mr. Cyriac of the society.

“We never missed a Sunday in the last 14 years by grace of god,” Mr Ambrose says sharing his joy.

The Society helps the Sisters of Providence and other missionary groups which are engaged in noble work such as helping the lepers, caring for the aged and disabled, nursing the ill through hospitals and clinics run by them.
