‘SMART’ to set up mineral water plants in 50 mandals

KADAPA: Congress MLA of Rayachoti Gadikota Srikanth Reddy announced on Tuesday that he would launch ‘Rachchabanda’ programme, conceived by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in Ramapuram mandal in his constituency on November 1.

Some villages in Ramapuram mandal would be shortlisted, the MLA said and added that he would strive to solve problems if sarpanches and MPTC members of the villages drew his attention.

He said he was taking up the programme to be accessible to the people and resolve their problems, the MLA told a meeting with officials and non-officials at Ramapuram.

Mr. Srikanth Reddy said a mineral water plant would be set up at Ramapuram under ‘Sujalam Suphalam’ scheme conceived by YSR, in November.

Under the scheme, mineral water would be supplied at 10 paise per litre in villages facing fluoride and contaminated water problems. Hyderabad-based SMART company would set up the mineral water plant.

Ramapuram mandal president Kadirappa, vice-president Muralidhar Reddy, sarpanches, MPTC members and mandal-level officials of several departments participated.

Land allotted

Land had been allotted near the primary health centre at Ramapuram for setting up a mineral water plant, SMART company regional manager Vithal Rao told newsmen at Ramapuram.

The company would set up mineral water plants in all the 50 mandals in Kadapa district, he said. He lauded YSR’s decision to supply mineral water in villages at Rs. 2 for 20 litres.
