Queen's Baton relay

The Commonwealth Games' Queen's Baton relay to be held here on August 16 is a prestigious event and the first such event to be held in this region.

It is an occasion for the people to participate in large numbers and the sportspersons and all those associated with sports consider it a sacred duty to be a part of the event. It has to be seen how the organisers fulfil this important duty. The plan is to gather one lakh people to participate in the event, by gathering them from the three north coastal districts. For this they can depend on the school and college students, NCC cadets but must not forget the many sportspersons in the region. Persons like the first Olympian from the north coastal Andhra M.V. Manikyalu, guru of numerous weightlifters K. Suryanarayana, the first Dronacharya in kabaddi E. Prasada Rao, many players who represented India in various games, reputed coaches, and thousands of players from colleges and schools, have to be properly guided to participate in the event.
