Pulse polio: 93 lakh children covered

1,400 mobile teams pressed into service across the State

Teams cover bus, railway stations & construction sites



HYDERABAD: Over 93 lakh children in the zero-five years age group were administered polio drops at 63,000 booths and 1,400 mobile teams across the State on Sunday as part of the pulse polio campaign.

The mobile teams covered many railway and bus stations besides large construction sites.

Verification

The mobile teams will undertake a house-to-house verification on Monday and Tuesday to cover any left over children, as there are an estimated 99 lakh to be given polio drops, according to Anil Punetha, Family Welfare Commissioner. Governor N. D. Tiwari administered polio drops to more than six children including his 18-month-old grand daughter Gia at Raj Bhavan along with S. P. Singh, Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and Anjan Kumar Yadav, MP.

Navin Mittal, Hyderabad Collector, Rajyalakshmi, MLC, and Jayakumari, Hyderabad District Medical and Health Officer, were among those present.

Governor’s call

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Tiwari stressed the importance of sensitising mothers about the crippling effects of polio and to ensure their participation in the pulse polio campaign.

Caution

He cautioned against any complacency in the polio eradication drive and called for a ceaseless war to ensure polio-free Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy administered polio drops to some children during his tour in West Godavari district.
