Public holiday on February 19

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam district Collector has declared February19 (Monday) a public holiday under the Negotiable Instrument Act in the areas falling under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) in view of civic elections on that day and to enable the employees to exercise their franchise.

This will apply to offices of the government and local bodies, and public and private undertakings/firms in the GVMC jurisdiction.

In respect of government offices and institutions, which are used as polling stations and counting centres, February18, 19 and 21 (date of counting) will be local holidays. However, treasuries and sub-treasuries will function as usual on those days.

There is a ban on sale of liquor in the city from 5 p.m. on Saturday to 5 p.m. on February 19 in view of elections to the GVMC. The sale of liquor will not be allowed on February 21 also as the votes polled would be counted on that day.
