Authorities release 42 inmates from Nellore Central Prison

NELLORE: Leaving the white striped dresses inside the jail they walked out from the main gate and broke into tears on seeing their family members. Emotional scenes were witnessed in front of the central prison here on Friday night, with the prisoners who were languishing in the jail for about two decades, were freed from the prison.

The jail authorities released 42 prisoners from the Central Prison, Nellore, on Friday night at around 8 p.m. At one time the jail staff had a tough time controlling the kin of the prisoners as several VIPs attended Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations (Prisoners Welfare Day) in the jail on Friday.

The relatives of the inmates and the prisoners who were in a dull mood till noon suddenly danced, jumped and hugged each other on hearing the news that the jail authorities received the releasing orders from the government. A festive atmosphere was seen in the jail with the prisoners, to be freed in a few hours, were seen dancing and singing with happiness with Kalanjali Orchestra troupe, which was arranged in the jail for Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The other prisoners and the jail staff greeted the inmates who got remission and asked them to lead a respectful life.

“Every year during Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti celebrations we used to wait here with lots of hopes on release of prisoners and return with depressed moods as there were some obstructions for the release. But, this time we are very happy thanks to the government for granting remission”, says Rangaiah, a parent of a released prisoner.

A released prisoner D. Dandapani of Tirupati said: “I was convicted in a murder case and was in jail since 11 years. My parents died when I was in jail ”, he said.
