VIJAYAWADA: Chukka Dhanakoti Surya Prakash Rao, 77, head of Prakash Arts, the leading firm in outdoor publicity in Andhra Pradesh, died here on Tuesday. Mr. Rao, who made Prakash Arts a name synonymous with outdoor publicity not just in Andhra Pradesh, but in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Orissa too, died in a private hospital after a prolonged illness. He is survived by wife, a son and five daughters.

Born in Chowtupalli village in Guntur district on July 14, 1932, Mr. Rao studied fine arts at the famous J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, and started his career as an art teacher in Vijayawada.

He set up Prakash Arts in 1962, and since then been taking up outdoor publicity through hoardings erected in all cities and towns of Andhra Pradesh.

As many as 5,000 hoardings, 50 arches, 200 unipoles and some bus shelters were installed by Prakash Arts, while electronic publicity through trivision and LED screens were also used by his firm.

With about a 1,000-strong manpower, Prakash Arts has emerged as the second largest outdoor publicity firm in the country. Mr. Rao also opened branches of Prakash Arts in Chennai, Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli.
