NIZAMABAD: To instil confidence among people of all religions and to spread the message of unity, a peace rally under the leadership of Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu was taken out in the town on Saturday.

Deputy IG, K. Rajaratnam Naidu, Joint Collector Neetu Prasad, Mayor D. Sanjay, Corporators, activists and leaders of all political parties, religious leaders, officials and un-officials took part in the rally that proceeded from Collectorate to Gandhi Chowk where they garlanded the Gandhi statue.

Addressing on the occasion the Collector and the Deputy IG strongly condemned the communal violence erupted in Bhainsa of Adilabad district on Friday and called upon people to live peacefully and not to get carried away by any kind of rumours. Expressing happiness over the smooth passage of immersions of Ganesh and Devi idols they said that the district stood as an example for other communally sensitive districts in the State. They said only the innocent lost lives in the Bhainsa incidents and no one could console the bereaved families.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said communal harmony was very important in the society comprising people of different faiths, religions and creeds for peace and tranquillity and economic development.

The Deputy IG appreciated all religious leaders as communal harmony has been intact in the district in the last three decades. He wished that this harmony and peaceful coexistence would continue forever.

Saying that the responsibility of prevention of communal riots in Bhainsa rests squarely on Adilabad district administration a noted lawyer and Praja Rajyam Party leader M. Rajender Reddy, felt that had the police and civil administration taken all precautionary measures the violent incidents would have been avoided. Sayyad Iftekar, former Municipal Chairman M. Devender Gupta, Jamathe Islam leader Shaikh Hussain and Mayor Sanjay also spoke.
