Panels to curb child labour proposed

KURNOOL: K. Sandhya Rani, Social Development Officer of DFID, called upon the district administration to constitute panels at mandal level to check child labour.

Ms. Sandhya Rani said the incidence of child labour had come down sharply in the last three years in the district. The number of child workers which was 44,151 in 2005-06 declined to 10,785 now. She said only mandal-level officers could motivate parents to send their children to RBCs and Rajiv Vidya Mission schools.

She appreciated the efforts of Women and Child Welfare Department which involved Anganwadi workers to identify children outside school. Also, she advised the education department to enumerate the school age children afresh and help the children admit to RBCs. State Project Officer of ILO Prasad, Joint Commissioner of Labour Department Ch.V. Ramanaand others were present.
