HYDERABAD: An old Primary Health Centre (PHC) building in S.R. Nagar collapsed during heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Parts of the city that bore the brunt of rains that lashed the city in the early hours of Monday limped back to normalcy with officials clearing the roads and removing the silt on Tuesday.

Officials said that the worst affected stretches like the Shenoy Nursing Home-AOC Centre road, Oliphanta bridge near Secunderabad and Alugaddabavi near Mettuguda were cleared by late in the evening for smooth flow of traffic.

These areas turned into cesspools affecting traffic for hours.

Though water receded in the evening layers of silt that deposited at several places proved to be a nightmare for motorists. However, municipal officials cleared the silt paving way for smooth flow of traffic.

Heavy showers on Tuesday evening threatened to create similar problems but luckily rain stopped after an hour bringing relief to people heading back home. Some areas adjoining the Picket nala got inundated. Cellars of many apartments in Street No.1 in Sindhi Colony and some main roads also got inundated. The Alwal main road too faced water logging posing problems for the motorists.

Some colonies around Alwal like Srinivasa Nagar also faced similar problems. Narsa Raju, Asst Engineer, Central Emergency Squad of GHMC said there were no reports of water logging on Tuesday in the Hyderabad region.

However, he said a tree fell on the road near Officers Mess, Masab Tank and it was immediately removed.
